The Ocean State Indoor Lacrosse League is now taking registrations for its eighth winter indoor season! Action will take place on the synthetic turf fields at the Sherwood Ultra-Sports Center in Seekonk for grade school (3rd- 4th, 5th- 6th grade), middle school (7th-8th grade) & high school age players on starting on January 11th, 2012. Our Indoor season runs for eight sessions with no games the week of February 20th- 24th  (February Vacation). Plans call for there being four age groups for both the boys and girls divisions- 3rd-4th grade, 5th-6th grade, 7th-8th grade, & high school. Like our past indoor programs, the knowledgeable OSLC coaching staff will provide valuable instruction to the players in a focused, fun, and positive setting, with emphasis on preparing them for the outdoor spring season. A portion of each session will be devoted to Speed & Agility work to improve the players’ athletic skills. Ocean State Indoor is a great opportunity for players of all abilities to play an outdoor style game indoors and prepare themselves for the spring season.

The 2012 OSL Indoor Schedule for each age group is tentatively planned as described below:

       Wednesdays (1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/29, 3/7)

     Additional details are as follows:

-           Space is limited, so please register early. A late fee of $15 will be charged on any registrations received after January 11th, 2012.

-          Players must be active members of US Lacrosse. A youth player who played last year needs to make sure that he or she is covered through March, 2011. To verify your membership number or to register for membership, go to www.uslacrosse.org .

-          60 minute sessions for 3rd-4th grade players will be comprised of 30 minute games preceded by 25-30 minute pre-game skill building sessions. Emphasis will be on instruction of fundamentals in addition to game play with particular emphasis on defensive play, offensive ball movement, scooping, passing, catching, and shooting with both hands, speed & agility training, and sportsmanship.

-          60-90 minute sessions for the 5th-6th grade, 7th-8th grade, & high school players will be comprised of 40-45 minute games preceded by 15-20 minute pre-game skill building sessions. Players will also take part in 30 minute speed & agility training sessions prior to or after the scheduled game every other week. On the weeks where there is no training scheduled for your team, the session will be 60 minutes long.

-          Games will be played using field lacrosse (6’x6’) goals. Younger teams (3rd-4th grade & 5th-6th grade teams) will play on a small field; older teams will go full field.

-          Standings will be maintained for age divisions with four or more teams, with a playoff and championship scheduled for the final week of the season.

-          Game postponements or schedule updates will be posted @ our website, www.oceanlax.com .

-          The rules of field lacrosse will apply with the following exceptions:

1- Younger teams will play 6v6 Teams (1 attack, 3 middies, 1 defense, 1 goalie). Older teams

will play in a 8v8 format (2 attack, 3 middies, 2 defense, 1 goalie).

2- No faceoffs after a goal. Following the score of a goal, the goalie will retrieve the ball and begin clearing the ball upfield.

3- ‘Take-out’ body checking is not allowed. Checks occurring by incidental contact when   going for the ball or applying equal pressure when playing defense are permitted. Girls will
play under modified checking rules.

Special requests to accommodate players who wish to play on the same team (due to being classmates or for carpooling) will be taken into consideration. Every effort will be made to accommodate these requests as long as RIIL rules are not violated and all teams appear to be balanced.
