In the fall of 2011, the Ocean State Lacrosse Club is offering a five session 'Dodge & Shoot' program on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings starting in October at Saint Andrews School, 79 Federal Road in Barrington. Action will take place on Henius Field, which is on the south side of Federal Road across the stree from the main campus.
Either time slot- four sessions on Wednesdays (10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26) from 5:00-6:15 or four sessions on Saturdays (10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29) from 9:00-10:15- are available on a first come first-served basis. The program will be run by Coach Jeff Popham (Barrington High School) with the assistance of other local coaches and college players.
Emphasis will be on:
- teaching a variety of dodges and the keys on when to use them
- teaching proper stick protection and shooting mechanics with both hands
- shooting on the run from a variety of situations
- setting picks and cutting & shooting off of picks
- improving each player's shot speed and shot accuracy.
Each session will be limited to 12 players. Four goals will be set up on the field. Players will be divided into four groups at each session & will spend equal time at each goal working on specific types of shots. The program is geared for players at all levels of experience ages 9-18 who are interested in becoming better dodgers and shooters. Players will get a great workout and will also receive advice on pre-season conditioning.
All players are required to be members of US Lacrosse. Male players will be required to wear helmets, gloves, and arm pads to help get used to wearing them and for their safety. Female players will be required to wear goggles for their safety.
The player fee for four sessions is $80.
